The Fashionably Late Reset: Why Being “Behind” Doesn’t Mean You’re Failing
Here’s a fun little reminder that overwhelm doesn’t run the show… you do.
Behind?
No, darling.
Just fashionably late. 😏
Let’s tell the truth: sometimes it feels like no matter how much you do… you’re still behind. Recently, my to-do list looked less like a plan and more like a hostage note written by an overachieving perfectionist with a sparkly gel pen.
You know those weeks—where your schedule laughs at you, your brain feels overstuffed, and your energy is somewhere hiding under a pile of Target receipts? Yep. That week.
And yes, I teach balance, acceptance, slowing down, clarity… all the things.
But that doesn’t mean I’m immune to slipping into Overwhelm Land. The difference now?
I don’t pitch a tent there anymore.
When I feel out of sync with the lifestyle I’ve intentionally built, I don’t spiral. I realign.
I grab my tools, take a breath, and slide right back into the driver’s seat like the glow-up CEO of my life. 🚗✨
The Pause Before the Pivot
Before jumping into fixes, I always pause long enough to ask myself what’s really going on underneath the chaos.
Am I tired… or just busy?
Am I procrastinating… or protecting my peace?
Am I chasing everything… or focusing on what actually matters?
That tiny pause creates space to shift from reaction to intention — and that’s where everything changes.
My Bounce-Back Ritual (a.k.a. How I Stop the Spiral)
These are the exact steps I use to get back in alignment fast:
1. The Values Check
Is my schedule aligned with what actually matters? Or am I letting random noise run my life?
2. To-Do List Triage
Delete. Delegate. Delay. Do. Pick one. Ruthlessly.
3. The Success List
Before bed, I write down needle-movers, not just cute little tasks that trick my brain into feeling productive.
4. The Task Temperature Check
Ask yourself:
On a scale of 1–10, how important is this really?
How would I feel if I never did this?
How would I feel if I knocked it out right now?
This is where overwhelm loses its power — when you stop letting it set the pace and start leading with intention instead of panic.
Try This Mini Reset
Grab a notebook (or a napkin; I don’t judge):
What are the top 5 things weighing on you right now?
Which 3–5 tasks have been haunting your list like cute little productivity ghosts? 👻
Which tasks actually excite you?
Which ones would give you the biggest exhale once they’re done?
If you find yourself “behind,” remember: t’s not a character flaw. It’s a cue to recalibrate, not criticize.
And if you’re reading this a week late? Fabulous. Apparently, we’re both on the fashionably late reset schedule.
